農民と砂金採取者

 ダム建設現場の前で徹夜の抗議活動
SAN MANUEL, PANGASINAN ---------- A mass - vigil was held here Friday to strongly reiterate the farmers stand for the stopping of the operation of the San Roque Multi -purpose Dam Project. About 300 farmers and supporters gathered in front of the SRD main gate. The said vigil was led by Tignay dagiti Mannalon a Mangwayawaya ti Agno (TIMMAWA) of Pangasinan and Shalupirip Shantanay Indigenous Peoples Movement of Benguet.

Present on the said vigil were priests and seminarians from Aglipayan Church Theological Seminary - Pangasinan, Alyansa ng mga Magbubukid sa Gitnang Luzon (AMGL), Task Force San Roque Dam from University of the Philippines Baguio and Diliman, League of Filipino Students- Pangasinan and Anakbayan - Pangasinan and Dap-ayan ti Kultura iti Kordilyera.

Jose Doton, chairperson of TIMMAWA, said until now there are still unpaid farmers for their lost residential and farmlands. The SRPC should pay their debt to the affected people of Pangasina and Benguet first before they start operating the dam.

The farmers gold panners demand San Roque Power Corporation and National Power Corporation to provide them a sustainable livelihood that would compensate for their economic displacement. They also pressed the SRPC and NPC to pay the three-year income loss of each gold panner in San Manuel and San Nicholas and imbursement of exact cost for their now non-productive agricultural lands caused by the quarrying activities of the SRPC for the last three years.

They said that inspite of series dialogues with NPC officials including NPC President Rolan Quilala the above issues remain unsolved.

The farmers and gold panners, especially those who are at the resettlement sites, added that they are now in a very desperate situation wherein they are suffering much because of not having a sustainable source of income. Unlike before, they earn a minimum of P200 a day, just enough to sustain their daily needs. Added to this, an increasing number of children are forced to stop schooling because of not having enough money for enrollment.

The farmers and gold panners bow to continue staging protests in the coming days until the SRPC and NPC give their demands.
